What You Need to Know
Effective July 4, 2025, this tax deduction program runs from 2025 through 2028. In order to take advantage of this, your purchase must be for personal and not business use. Additionally, leases do not qualify for the tax deduction.
To qualify, vehicles must be purchased after December 31, 2024, with the exception of used vehicles. The new model must have a gross vehicle rating of less than 14,000 pounds. It must also have gone through final assembly within the United States.
Please note that the maximum annual deduction is $10,000. And a phased deduction will occur based on the taxpayer's income and status. Taxpayers with a modified adjusted gross income of over $100,000 or $200,000 for joint filers will experience phased deductions.
